Last Thursday, Oct. 21, 2011, Cape Girardeau’s Main Street reopened. Isle of Capri Casinos, Inc., along with local Cape Girardeau city and business officials, reopened Main Street after being closed to the public since March in order to reroute the road around the casino site. Said Cape Girardeau Mayor Harry Rediger, the street closing “was a tremendous inconvenience . . . but I’ve heard so few complaints from the residents because they knew what was coming.” Complete with the obligatory pair of comically large ribbon cutting scissors, a line of construction tape was cut to proclaim the street open. It is great to see such progress at the casino site!
